The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (NYCGB) has announced that Anne Besford has been appointed to the new role of Chief Executive.
Besford comes to NYCGB with nearly 20 years of wide-ranging experience in arts and cultural administration and management. Most recently, she was senior strategic lead for cultural development at Middlesbrough Council, where her achievements included the £8m capital and organisational redevelopment of Middlesbrough Town Hall and the creation of Musinc, a partnership initiative to support access to music for young people in challenging circumstances.
Based at the NYCGB head office in Durham, the new Chief Executive will lead NYCGB’s strategic, operational and financial development and its office-based team of administrative, marketing and development staff. Following the new appointment, Ben Parry becomes NYCGB Artistic Director and will continue to lead NYCGB’s artistic team and programme.
Anne Besford said:
‘I am delighted to join the NYCGB team in the new Chief Executive role. NYCGB has an exciting role to play in ensuring that children and young people have the opportunity to participate in excellent and inspiring music-making, and I am looking forward to leading the organisation through its next stage of development.’
Ben Parry said:
‘This is an important and logical move in NYCGB’s ongoing development. I am delighted to be handing over the management reins to Anne, who will be able to lead the organisation expertly through its next exciting stage, so that I can concentrate on the music-making!’
Professor Christopher Higgins, Chairman of the NYCGB Board of Trustees, said:
‘Appointing a Chief Executive to lead NYCGB alongside Artistic Director, Ben Parry, is an important step forward in the growth and development of NYCGB. We look forward to welcoming Anne Besford as part of the NYCGB family in July and to developing strategic plans for the next four years.’
